The National Electrical Code (NEC) is published by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and outlines the minimum standards which must be met to protect people and property from fire hazards.

This course is designed to deliver the basics of the NEC as it relates to the installation of fire and burglar alarm systems. Other Codes and Standards come into play, particularly those rules adopted by local jurisdictions.

After completing this course, you should be able to do the following:
  • Explain the need for Codes and Standards.
  • Understand how the National Electrical Code drives installation methods and procedures.
  • Break down the basic layout and format used for the National Electrical Code.
  • Identify basic topic categories contained in the National Electrical Code.
